The information included in this site should help you prepare for your surgery. If you have any questions about your surgery or our facility, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Earning Your Trust Through Quality
One of the most important things we do to earn your trust is to participate voluntarily in the quality assessment program of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Our accreditation tells you that the AAAHC’s independent team of health care professionals has taken a close look at us and has found that we meet their rigorous, nationally recognized standards for quality health care services.
Accreditation demands a high level of commitment and effort. It challenges us always to find better ways to serve you. It reminds us constantly that our first and most important responsibility is to see that you receive the best care we can possibly provide.
Our accreditation gives you that extra measure of confidence you want in your health care services. It’s one more way for us to say “We care about you.”
Agency for Health Care Administration
The AHCA provides the following online resource for patients to search provider price and quality in comparison with other surgical centers. Available through this site, patients will also find a collection of help resources such as Hospice and consumer guides, health education, and location information for other Florida health care facilities and providers within your area. Link: www.floridahealthfinder.gov
Patients and prospective patients may request from this facility and other health care providers a more personalized estimate of charges and other information. Patients and prospective patients should contact each health care practitioner who will provide services in the ASC to determine the health insurers and health maintenance organizations with which the health care practitioner participates as a network provider or preferred provider.

The Procedure
Anesthesia:
Your anesthesia will be provided by an anesthesiologist and a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) highly qualified in outpatient anesthesia. The appropriate type of anesthesia will be determined by your surgeon in consultation with the anesthesiologist/CRNA and with your approval. For most ophthalmology procedures, topical anesthesia (eye drops) will be used in combination with intravenous medications. Your anesthesiologist/CRNA will answer any questions that you may have before surgery. Even though your medications are listed on your patient chart, be sure to talk to your anesthesiologist/CRNA about any medications that you are currently taking, even over-the-counter drugs and vitamins, as well as any allergies you may have to medications.
Recovery:
Immediately following your surgery, you will be taken to our fully-equipped recovery room where a nurse will closely monitor your blood pressure and pulse. The amount of time you spend in recovery will depend on the type of surgery and/or anesthesia that you have had. Most likely your entire visit in the Surgery Center will be between one to two hours.
After Surgery:
Before you leave the Surgery Center, a nurse will review with you the written summary of your doctor’s postoperative instructions.
When You Get Home After Surgery
For best results, be sure to carefully follow your doctor’s specific instructions regarding diet, rest, activities and medications.
One of our nurses will call you after surgery to see how you are doing. At anytime, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call your doctor or the Surgery Center.

You will receive separate bills for the following:

SECTION 1557 OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
It is the policy of The Suncoast Surgery Center not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. The Surgery Center has adopted an internal grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (42 U.S.C. 18116) and its implementing regulations at 45 CFR part 92, issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Section 1557 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in certain health programs and activities.
Any person who believes someone has been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability may file a grievance under this procedure. It is against the law for the Practice to retaliate against anyone who opposes discrimination, files a grievance, or participates in the investigation of a grievance.
SUBMISSION OF GRIEVANCE
Grievances must be submitted to the Section 1557 Coordinator within (60 days) of the date the person filing the grievance becomes aware of the alleged discriminatory action.
A complaint must be in writing, containing the name and address of the person filing it. The complaint must state the problem or action alleged to be discriminatory and the remedy or relief sought.
INVESTIGATION
The Section 1557 Coordinator (or her/his designee) shall conduct an investigation of the complaint. This investigation may be informal, but it will be thorough, affording all interested persons an opportunity to submit evidence relevant to the complaint. The Section 1557 Coordinator will maintain the files and records of the Practice relating to such grievances. To the extent possible, and in accordance with applicable law, the Section 1557 Coordinator will take appropriate steps to preserve the confidentiality of files and records relating to grievances and will share them only with those who have a need to know.
The Section 1557 Coordinator will issue a written decision on the grievance, based on a preponderance of the evidence, no later than 30 days after its filing, including a notice to the complainant of their right to pursue further administrative or legal remedies.
APPEAL
The person filing the grievance may appeal the decision of the Section 1557 Coordinator by writing to the (Chief Executive Officer) within 15 days of receiving the Section 1557 Coordinator’s decision. The (Chief Executive Officer) shall issue a written decision in response to the appeal no later than 30 days after its filing.
The availability and use of this grievance procedure does not prevent a person from pursuing other legal or administrative remedies, including filing a complaint of discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in court or with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights. A person can file a complaint of discrimination electronically through the Office for Civil Rights Complaint Portal, which is available at:https://ocrportal.hhs.gov/ocr/portal/lobby.jsf, or by mail or phone at: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 200 Independence Avenue SW., Room 509F, HHH Building, Washington, DC 20201.
Complaint forms are available at: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/office/file/index.html. Such complaints must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.
ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE GRIEVANCE PROCESS
The Surgery Center will make appropriate arrangements to ensure that individuals with disabilities and individuals with limited English proficiency are provided auxiliary aids and services or language assistance services, respectively, if needed to participate in this grievance process. Such arrangements may include, but are not limited to, providing qualified interpreters, providing taped cassettes of material for individuals with low vision, or assuring a barrier-free location for the proceedings. The Section 1557 Coordinator will be responsible for such arrangements.
